MIX 99.9 BeachFest

Kew Gardens in the Beaches, Toronto, Ontario

September 1, 1997

For once, I'm at a loss for words... ...BeachFest was..., well, it was... ...short. The guys only played for about 45 minutes. One really good thing about this show was that the "Southern Ontario Chapter of the Friends of Great Big Sea" were out in full force (we took over the entire front row from just in front of Alan to slightly past Bob). But the best part was that the front row was actually close to the stage for once. We all got tons of great pictures (some of us got more than we know what to do with!). And, the guys were even brave enough to attempt an autograph session after the show! (now that was crazy!)

The Play list!
BeachFest was an interesting show in my opinion for several reasons. The show was put on by Mix 99.9, a radio station here in Toronto. Unfortunately, they had such an odd line-up of artists (Dayna Manning, Moxy Fruvous, Barney Bental, Greg and Jim from Blue Rodeo to name but a few) that Great Big Sea got stuck right in the middle of the line-up. A large percentage of the people attending this show were there only to see Great Big Sea and either left as soon as they finished performing or they joined the mob of people that were trying to get the guys autographs (and there were a lot of people that fell into this category - the guys signed autographs for what seemed like forever!). Other than the problems with the line-up, BeachFeast'97 was a great success (no pun intended!)
